“Greeting cards” is a very competitive business and difficult to break into as an independent artist or photographer. I started out producing cards form my father’s artwork and made all the mistakes in the book. After all how difficult can it be to produce and sell a few greeting cards? Three years down the line I can tell you….
You can save a lot of money and time by following the tips below:-
¨ To start, print as few cards as possible of each design and show them to shops and buyers to see which are most popular. This will make the cost per card high to start but saves you a fortune in the long run with cards you can’t sell. (I fell into this trap and paid a fortune warehousing cards that will never sell)
¨ Start with a card about 12cm x 17cm as many shops only take this size card! You will sell at least 3 times as many cards at this size than any other. You will also be able to buy standard sized envelopes and cello bags which will keep the costs down. (I did this wrong too!)
¨ If you are creating other sized cards check standard envelope sizes first and make the card fit an envelope. If you don’t do this it will be prohibitively expensive to produce a small number of cards. (I did get this one right)

Greetingcards-online.co.uk sell large card orders on a dispatch to order basis and for smaller orders pay suppliers for cards sold at the end of each month.
